Since we've been on vacation in Montreal this week we never actually filled up a gas tank, thankfully. Here in Las Vegas last week we paid $4.29 per gallon to fill up our two vehicles. That basically amounts to about $100. In Montreal, we paid $17 each for an unlimited Metro/Bus pass for three days. It's all we needed to get around. It was awesome. Residents only have to pay $62.50 for a monthly pass. That's far less than we spend per month for gasoline.
So, of course, it begs the question, why can't cities in the western U.S. develop and operate reliable, viable public transportation systems like the the one in Montreal? The only city that has a good system is San Francisco and when we visit the city we use it. It's great. If Vegas had a metro system, I'd use it.To end this post, I applaud Montreal for operating a clean, safe and reliable public transportation system, the Metro. It's a great model for our transportationally challenged cities.
